I was born and raised in Berlin and still live there. I love to travel, but I could never imagine moving away from my hometown.

I always loved photography as a hobby, but never thought I would make a career out of it. When my boyfriend presented the idea of starting a blog in 2011, I said yes. I had just finished school and didn’t have an apprenticeship yet. At first it was him taking photos my outfits for my blog. But with Instagram, I started to take photos myself again. I learned everything about ISO, light, aperture, exposure time and how to use a DLSR camera. I can’t say when exactly I realized that it could be a whole career, but in 2016 blogging and Instagram became our main source of income.

My blog whaelse.com was my boyfriend’s idea. After school I was unsure about what to do next. I thought that going to university was the only way to a career. But I was rejected by every university I applied to. It wasn’t the easiest time for me, to be honest. I worked at Forever21 while still writing my blog and using Instagram.

Blogging became bigger as more brands started to see social media as a great promotion tool, and I started to get my first paid collaborations.

Two things helped me build my career. The book 'The Secret', and my boyfriend. I started reading 'The Secret' after my second try to get into university. I got my mindset “that everything happens for a reason” from this book. My boyfriend empowered and encouraged me to become self-employed. He played a huge role in building my career.

Staying authentic can be hard at times. It's easy start comparing yourself to others. There is a place for everyone. To stay authentic, you must understand, that no one is you. You don’t have to try to be someone else to be successful. Share what you enjoy, and its OK if you dont feel like sharing.

For aspiring influencers, my advice is - put yourself out there. Connect with other content creators from your city - not the biggest ones, but other like-minded creators. Help each other with content creation, share experiences and contacts. You must ask for what you want and need!

Always remember to give back.
Instagram is a great tool to reach out to brands. Don’t just reach out to every brand to get free clothes. What is it that you love about the brand? Why do you want to work with them?

Traveling fuels my creative energy. Being in a different environment, seeing new things and just being away from what I see every day. When I can’t travel, I go to Pinterest and look for inspiration.

The three must haves in my wardrobe are an oversized blazer, a pair of wide leg pants and black boots.

  • The first Blanche item I ever wore was a green denim two-piece for Blanche's first ever show in February 2020, and I was so excited! I didn’t take a photo myself, but I remember the streetstyle shot I got, I also shared on my Instagram @whaelse
